Bat Star
Bat Star
Patiria miniata
Habitat: Rocky shores above and below the low tide line to more than 1,000 feet deep!!
Range: Western North American Coast – Mexico (Punta Eugenia, Baja) to Alaska
Maximum Size: 6 to 8 Inches
Fun Facts: A Bat Star’s color is highly variable and may range from an almost solid color to speckled with cream, yellow, brown, red, orange, violet and magenta in endlessly random patterns. Bat stars are usually found with numerous commensal annelid worms living on their underside. The worms don’t harm the bat star and are there for the free food!
