Spring 2024 – Fresno and Clovis high school students at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology’s environmental lab (CART) who are mentored by Aquarius Aquarium Institute released baby rainbow trout they raised from eggs in their classroom aquariums into the Kings River, just below Pine Flat Dam. By regularly testing the water in the rearing tanks and performing massive water changes when ammonia levels started to rise, both the AM and PM teams were thrilled that they were able to release 21 fish.
This program, permitted through CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife, gives students an experience that connects them to our San Joaquin Valley watershed and inspires further study into important water issues impacting their lives, our region and beyond.
