Summer may be here, but learning is still making waves!

Aquarius Aquarium Institute’s Teaching Tidepools® program is off to an exciting start in summer school classrooms, where students are diving into the wonders of the ocean through hands-on experiences that spark curiosity, imagination and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

This week, young learners became marine explorers as they examined real seashells, listened to the sounds of “the ocean,” and eagerly gathered around our mobile tidepool exhibit.

For many students, it was their first opportunity to closely observe tidepool animals and marine specimens while learning about the incredible diversity of life found along California’s coastline.

Their smiles say it all. These simple moments help connect children to places and ecosystems they may never have experienced before, opening the door to questions, discovery and wonder.

Guided by our educators, students learn about the importance of protecting aquatic habitats and how even small actions like not allowing trash in our tidepools make a huge difference.

More than just a science lesson, Teaching Tidepools® encourages students to observe carefully, ask questions and make connections between their own lives and the aquatic environment that sustains life on our planet. Every visit builds environmental literacy while creating positive memories that students carry with them long after the program ends.

As the Fresno Aquarium project continues to move forward, programs like Teaching Tidepools® demonstrate why our mission extends far beyond a building. Every child we reach today represents a future steward of our rivers, oceans and aquatic ecosystems.

The laughter, excitement and curiosity filling these summer classrooms remind us why we do this work. The future of conservation begins when a child discovers something amazing about the natural world.

Thank you to our members, donors, volunteers and supporters who make programs like Teaching Tidepools® possible. Together, we’re inspiring the next generation of ocean explorers—one classroom at a time.
